Monday Morning Commute: #210 From Victim to Victor w/Dr. Francisco Contreras

My guest this week is Dr. Francisco Contreras. He is a cancer specialist renowned for integrating alternative therapies with conventional cancer treatment. For the last 38 years, he has treated tens of thousands of patients who have come from more than 60 countries seeking alternative cancer treatment at his Oasis of \hope Hospital in Mexico. He has spoken around the world and appeared on CNN, MSNBC, and Fox & Friends. He is the author of twelve books including his new release “the Art & Science of Undercoming Cancer”.

He has dedicated his life mission to helping patients in body, mind, and spirit. He and his team have created an environment that is very different from a hospital. My favorite was when he said: “We spend more time, here at the hospital, providing emotional and spiritual resources to our patients than medications.” (Francisco C.; 23:00) They don’t view their patients as ill patients, they treat them like usual, healthy people… because they are!

Francisco gives us some food for thought:

“Your emotions are going to be expressed depending on your spiritual fortitude… emotions are not positive or negative, they’re functional or dysfunctional. (Francisco C.; 20:10)

If something gets you upset, there’s a reason behind that. For instance, if you get angry about poverty, perhaps it lights a fire in you to create a nonprofit organization! So therefore, that anger is not a “negative emotion”, in fact, it’s a functional one!

Francisco inspires us to go from victim to victor~

Speaking of transitioning from a victim to a victor, there have been many encounters where Francisco has been told from his patients that cancer is the best thing that happened to them because they were NOT appreciating the little things in life prior to their diagnosis.

Wow– that is a big statement.

Imagine if we started taking note of life’s everyday gems without needing a major diagnosis to help us do that? We have to slow down to smell the flowers on our walk from the car to the grocery store.

It’s all in the details.

Heath’s Tips:

  1. Cancer patients should be mindful of their sugar intake. Diet plays a very major role
  2. The best diet for a cancer patient: vegan, low glycemic (no sugar) (40:20)
  3. Eat as many alkaline foods that you can– all citrus fruits + green vegetables are alkaline. Those are two families. ALL processed foods are acidic. (48:20)
